One part Bass Reeves historical drama, one part Lone Ranger and Tonto, and three parts generous artistic license. Strong first half, weaker second, mostly because there wasn't enough faith put into in the actual man's life and career being compelling enough to the audience on their own.

They would've been for anybody who cares about history and truth: the man was a badass. The fictional substitutions are alright but weaker material overall. Maybe one day we'll get a proper biopic that does Bass Reeves justice without needing to exaggerate or distort him to be entertaining for a general audience. Some good performances and directing here all the same.
