HOOPTOBER 3.0 NIGHT ONE: + 2024 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 13: JOE D'AMATO WEEK A pretty dull zombie/slasher hybrid with a few fleeting moments of cartoonishly over-the-top gore that are clearly what landed it on the UK censors' "video nasty" list back in the day. The film seemingly sacrifices its one mildly rootable character (a pregnant lady with a twisted ankle) in the first reel, destroying pretty much any stakes for the remaining characters, who are fairly interchangeable even by '80s slasher standards. Once the cast reaches the mansion on the hill, it becomes sort of fun in the same way as watching someone play an early Resident Evil game with the crappy fixed camera angles and horrible walking/running controls, with the characters making every possible survival-horror mistake. CW: Probably not a great one to watch for anyone who's expecting, or has sensitivities around pregnancy/childbirth/miscarriages, etc.
