HOOPTOBER NINE! NIGHT TWENTY-SIX! This year's required Tobe Hooper film did not disappoint! Even at a leisurely Sunday afternoon filling three-hour running time with a very noticeable act-break between halves, this felt very brisk and well-paced while still having time for the odd digressions and side-stories that King loves to salt into his narratives. Once we get to the final set piece and it turns into this hybrid vampire/zombie/haunted house movie, we see Tobe Hooper bringing all of his old tension-ratcheting tricks from Texas Chainsaw Massacre (as well as its lesser reptilian cousin, Eaten Alive) to prime-time '70s TV. He doesn't get to go quite as far as either of those films, but you can see the same mind at work at the very least.
