2021 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 31: GODFREY HO WEEK Some extremely fun and surprisingly competent '80s-style action cheese; Cynthia Rothrock is top-billed but feels like more of a special guest star, with the surprisingly likable Donna Jason in the true protagonist role as a martial arts whiz-turned-investigative TV reporter. Jason only has four other movie credits in roughly the same time frame, which makes curious and maybe a little bit afraid to know her story. Robin Shou also turns up in a bit part, just a couple of years before he was cast in Mortal Kombat. The villain of this film is basically Don Jr. if he was consuming massive amounts of anabolic steroids instead of cocaine, and he's a hissable enough heel that the movie gives his bodyguard a whole subplot where he wonders where he went wrong in life to work for a guy like this. Overall, it feels like there's a little more characterization in this movie than you get in most direct-to-video action, which made for kind of a nice change of pace from the usual stuff.
