2022 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 9: FRED WILLIAMSON WEEK I have some real questions about Larry Cohen's script for this one, considering that it was made only months after the original BLACK CAESAR was released. If a sequel was always in the cards, I don't know why Cohen would have written himself into such a weird-as-hell corner with the ending of the first movie. Fred Williamson -- seemingly beaten to death by random neighborhood toughs at the end of BLACK CAESAR -- spends the entire first reel of this movie basically walking it off before declaring full revenge on his enemies from the previous film. It's such a wild non-sequitur of a beginning that it's effectively a signal from Williamson and Cohen that we're just here to have fun and not worry too much about basic cause and effect.
