Hearing a lot of people complain that Knuckles isn’t actually in this enough, but nobody wants to talk about how it does more with him than most of games over the past few years have. Pretty cool to see them make a 6-episode miniseries centered around side characters who probably wouldn't be able to carry their own spin-off film. It's a great way to expand that universe and shows there's plenty of room for more projects like this in the future. What's even better is that it does so without sacrificing any of the production quality you would get from a feature-length theater release. Knuckles' animation is fantastic (with his frequently adorable facial expressions), the writing is sharp and witty, the action exciting, and there are plenty of recognizable big-name celebrity appearances. The comedy often goes to some incredibly surreal and at times deeply strange places that inexplicably works for the franchise despite it seeming like it totally shouldn't. It's an all-around blast!  A thing that will also never cease to amaze me with these live-action adaptations is their ability to make all the stuff going on with the human characters just as entertaining as whatever the anthropomorphic ones are getting up to. It's true, Wade Whipple does eventually overtake the titular echidna as the real star and protagonist in what is essentially that whole wedding plot line from the second movie on steroids. I didn't mind though. It's actually interesting, full of heart, and if you weren't absolutely about to die from laughing at the Shabbat dinner sequence then we can't be friends. Now, of course everything is not everything is perfect. This is one of those weird pseudo-children's shows where it's not quite sure what age range it's appropriate for due to profanity and jokes that will go right over the younger audience's head. The main villain is also completely wasted, receiving next to no screen time or backstory despite a fantastically menacing Rory McCann performance. Basically, if you're looking for art and depth this isn't for you. It's a silly delight though that I could definitely see myself watching again and has me more excited for the upcoming third flick than ever before. Now where's my Tails show?
