a review of 月光男孩

月光男孩 - 评论

I tend towards skepticism with regards to Best Picture Oscar nominees and even winners, but this was a fantastic movie all around. The writing, acting and direction were all so self-assured, and precise in how they told the story. None of the easy fallback tropes of the coming-of-age genre, or the African-American urban drama, or the gay coming-out story were leaned on. It made every single minute compelling, to make to audience realize how important the *details* are in a person's life, not just their social pigeonholes. Quite lovely, and unexpectedly so.
