I've struggled with La Chimera for a few days. I had, in my head, some idea of what this was going to be like, and most of what I thought that was was accurate, but not in the way that I thought it might be. (How's that for vague?) Alice Rohrwacher made a beautiful and bittersweet movie. Her and her cinematographer play with films and speeds in a way that I find delightful, and with aspect ratios that ⅓ makes sense to me and ⅔ I haven't quite figured out a reason for yet, and it became more of a distraction than a delight. It will likely require additional viewings for me to try and suss it all out, but I'm okay with that, as I think repeat viewings will be rewarding with this one. Lastly, I got a little chill at the end (the good kind), but a weirdly similar chill to the one I got from the end of The Vanishing (1988). The two movies couldn't be more different, and yet...
