Just a breathtaking piece of work all around, maybe Spike Lee's masterpiece in a way that Do the Right Thing (while also undeniably great) doesn't quite approach in terms of sheer epicness. It's both a highly specific biopic of a polarizing/widely misunderstood figure in American culture, but also a survey of the 20th century black experience and of Black cinema itself. It took me way too long to finally sit down to watch and come to grips with this movie, but I'm glad I did.
