a review of 蒙哥湖

I might have to give this one another viewing sometime, because I found it a little snoozy and underwhelming in a similar way to how I find Blair Witch underwhelming. (I know!) There's a LOT of "look at this blurry thing!", combined with the actors/direction seeming to deliberately underplay the emotion and creepiness that just kinda left me waiting for it to really open up. And when we finally do get to the climax, it's delivered via a shitty '00s flip phone camera and I find myself left wanting. I don't hate found footage movies, but I feel like I need more than just "somebody got a crummy looking picture of something spooky" to find them satisfying. But also part of me feels like I'm the guy who can't see the Magic Eye images, because I keep trying to see the movie that other people seem to see with this and Blair Witch and simply can't?
