FLOPUARY #2: My memories of the Tarkovsky film are more vibes than anything solid I can compare to Soderbergh's take, and I haven't read the Stanislaw Lem novel to compare either one as adaptations. But this feels like a pretty good squaring of the Kubrickian/Tarkovskyian impulse towards introspective/experiential SF with the post-Star Wars/Matrix/Avatar tendency of SF as demonstrative spectacle. Also, they found a way to throw in Jeremy Davies as a Juggalo particle physicist and that's not nothing.
