FLOPUARY #13: Reaching back to the first major flop of my childhood; I'm not sure, but I suspect reading the reviews of this movie in my local paper was my first clue that a movie aimed at *me*, a loyal 10-year-old COSBY SHOW viewer who had yet to taste the subversive adolescent charms of Matt Groening's THE SIMPSONS, could not only be bad, but be so legendarily terrible as to be totally unwatchable. And so I did not! Somehow both better than I imagined and also worse, and not just because of Cosby's long and lingering fall from grace as an American icon. There's a weird mix of extreme competence (wasn't expecting to see THE MATRIX's Gloria Foster chewing scenery as the archvillainess, nor Jan de Bont's crisp action cinematography) and utter amateurism (literally everything else?).
