a review of 蛋壳

ℍ𝕆𝕆ℙ𝕋𝕆𝔹𝔼ℝ 𝔼𝕃𝔼𝕍𝔼ℕ ℕ𝕀𝔾ℍ𝕋 𝔽𝕆𝕌ℝ𝕋𝔼𝔼ℕ: Usually I save the Tobe Hooper entry for the exact midpoint of my list, but this time I felt like breaking it out a little bit early for "just-because" reasons. As many LB reviews have noted, this movie is *barely* horror, qualifying more as a document of the late-'60s anti-establishment dropout scene in Austin, but it does have some adjacent genre elements and also reveals some of Hooper's sociopolitical motivations that he would seed throughout his later filmography. The hippie-verite domestic drama bits happening above-ground feel absolutely superfluous to *whatever* the hell is going on with the weird curly-haired guy in the basement (to the extent that I wondered if the other roommates were even aware he was down there?) but it supports Hooper's idea (more fully expressed in TCM) that some all-time *bad shit* was lurking in the undergrowth of the flower power era.
