a review of 黑狱拳王

A pretty interesting prison ensemble piece that almost feels like a documentary at times. The prison-boxing throughline sometimes feels secondary to the individual character bits with the various prisoners, and at times the main character's story seems to play second fiddle to the rest of the cast, but ultimately I enjoyed it as an attempt to bring some hard-hitting social realism to the sports movie formula.
