I first saw this nearly twenty years ago when it was released. The casting in this one was crazy good, and the writing was pretty good (though I wish Toni Collette's character had a bit more definition). The story about a hellish road trip doesn't take a wrong turn as it careens into the big climax. There are dark moments, but not pitch black. I think the film aged well and it was easy to identify with the characters depicted.
