1st Annual Criterion Challenge Week 51: Directed by John Cassavetes As an introduction to Cassavetes (as well as to his ongoing collaboration with Falk and Rowlands) this was pretty dynamite stuff. From the beginning, it's plain to see that something is off about Rowlands' character, but over the course of the film I came to realize that maybe her relationship with Falk was a kind of shared psychosis. Not so much a folie a deux so much as two separate subspecies existing in a continuous symbiotic state, with their respective crazies feeding off of each other.
