a review of 宇航员

#67 (March 8/31) This one is a delightful short film by Polish ex-pat animator Walerian Borowczyk, who I was utterly unaware of before Mubi put him on my radar. As it turns out, he was an undersung influence on Terry Gilliam, whose own style as an animator and filmmaker seem closely influenced by these 15 minutes. Truth be told, the thing that drew my eye to this in the menu was Chris Marker's name, since I was familiar with him by way of "La Jetee" and not much else. Apparently, he didn't have much to do with the creation of this film, other than helping Borowczyk get it made in France. Mubi has a couple of his other films up this month, so I'll see if I can get those in over the next few evenings.
