a review of 养鬼吃人

HOOPTOBER NINE! NIGHT SEVENTEEN! I feel like this one would be a good double feature with the EVIL DEAD remake, in terms of being both a well-done remake/remix of the source material, as well as a pretty harrowing allegory for substance abuse with an appealing lead actress (Odessa A'zion, who I've never seen in anything before but plan on following going forward) taking us through it all. I appreciated the way this movie reimagined the puzzle box, such that it felt genuinely dangerous and unpredictable in the way every twist and turn seemed to carry some physical or psychological risk to it, a far cry from some of the later Hells-raiser where the characters seem weirdly casual about it up until the point where the chains shoot out and rip off their skin.
