伊菲革涅亚 - 评论
My wife and I had time to kill between lunch and a movie, so we went to Barnes & Noble. I did a quick once-over of the 50% off Criterion sale where I was paralyzed by options, and flipped through all the Radiance titles (also 50% right now). This blind buy was my singular purchase. I'm not overly familiar with the works of Euripides, and really only know what I know about the Trojan war from other movies I've seen (I've never read The Odyssey, et cetera, etc...), and only know what I know about Greece from Yorgos Lanthimos (I understand that they parent a little differently over there). I also enjoy some of their cuisine. At any rate, what caught my eye was Radiance's write-up mentioning "the killing of a sacred deer," and that was all I needed to read to decide that I will save 50% and buy this movie immediately. I'm glad I did! It's a tragic tale told beautifully with wondrously mournful acting and lovely production design.
