a review of 兰闺艳血

This did an amazing job of keeping me guessing for the entire running time about exactly what must have happened with Bogart's character in the first act. Even though we're presented with a pretty straightforward depiction of the events, the way the narrative is constructed and the way Bogart portrays his gradual mental breakdown over the course of the film made me doubt my own eyes and ears, and wonder if Ray was withholding something from us. And when the truth is finally revealed at the very end, the impact is just tremendous. I look forward to watching this one again sometime soon to see how it holds up on a second watch.
