This was a period drama based on actual events in the English country town of Littlehampton. I don't know how close to the actual facts it sticks but I assume that it had to take some liberties for dramatic reasons. The three main characters of Edith, Rose, and Gladys are all changed by the scandal but this mostly takes place in the first two thirds of the film. The last section is concerned with the mechanics of how they can prove an air tight case against the actual culprit, which it does in a clever fashion. Once I heard a good bit of the salty language it just kind of fades into the background for me, no longer a big selling point for the film. The acting was competent, broad in many places, and the story mostly stayed away from sentimentality and simple farce.
