a review of 黑湖妖就在我们之间

HOOPTOBER ORIGINS 2.0 NIGHT TWENTY-FOUR: Not a great final outing for our friend the Gill-Man. Although the final act raises some very interesting questions about the creature's evolution that are begging to be reimagined through a more modern lens, the film does nothing with the concept. I have to assume that this was most likely for budgetary reasons, as those underwater scenes (which I suspect may be recycled from previous Creature films) had to be expensive to shoot. The film's biggest mistake is swapping out the distinctive physicality of stuntman/diver Ricou Browning (who played the aquatic version of the Creature in all three films) for the more oafish presence of Don Megowan as the Creature's land-dwelling incarnation. It basically turns the last 20 minutes of the movie into a dull Frankenstein retread.
