2025 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 17: 50s SCI FI WEEK Starts off as a pretty square-seeming SF alien-invasion story of the era, but quickly develops into something a bit more interesting than the standard Cold War metaphors that typically characterize '50s film SF. I'd be interested to read Bradbury's initial treatment, as the film's treatment of the aliens has commonalities with some of the stories in THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES, which feels unique. I encourage anyone seeking this one out to put in a little legwork to find a decent black-and-white transfer. The only one I found on the free streamers was "restored" by a company called The Last Picture Show (no relation to the Bogdanovich film). They applied an awful-looking AI-assisted colorization process called "RINNUVA" that made it look like the entire movie had been printed on a rainbow hologram sticker, even uglier than the Ted Turner-brand colorizations which is saying something. Pure vandalism.
