a review of 狙击手

MANNVANUARY FOUR: I'll give this one a lot of credit for getting some of the psychological details right with its violent incel antagonist, but it also doesn't quite flesh out the reasons behind his psychosis in more than a cursory way. In keeping with the Stanley Kramer "message picture" pedigree, Richard Kiley's character gives an impassioned speech proposing responsible psychiatric solutions for violent crimes, but the movie doesn't really develop that idea beyond the police tossing minor offenders and juvenile delinquents into mental institutions, zero-tolerance style. At the very least, it's well written, directed, and acted, and cast with a bunch of memorable and diverse faces and personalities that add verisimilitude beyond your usual "movie" types of the era.
