2022 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 19: GARY BUSEY WEEK I'll admit to not knowing a ton about Buddy Holly outside of his music, but Busey's absolute live-wire performance creates a portrait of an artist who surpassed many of his peers in terms of being both a fantastic live performer as well as songwriter/producer. Although the movie more or less invents a lot of the tropes of the rock biopic, Busey's performance makes it all feel pretty organic to Holly's persona. I finished this movie feeling both exhilarated and angry that Holly didn't live to have a much longer and potentially more fruitful career into the '60s and beyond.
