2021 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 28: RUGGERO DEODATO WEEK It turns out that a creative approach to narrative structure and a provocative premise only goes so far if the filmmaker still doesn't have anything on the agenda other than shocking the audience. The infamous scenes of animal cruelty are well beyond the pale, and the overall concept that the hippy film crew are the "real savages" is also undermined by Deodato's use of native actors as both victims and perpetrators of graphic rape and violence. In short, fuck this movie.
