2020 Cult Movie Challenge Week 39: Cameron Mitchell Week A pretty decent example of a low-stakes Western with some of the feel of a crime thriller, with the action contained to just a few settings (the range, the gang hideout, the homestead) and the bare minimum of plot in a brief running time. Although it's by no means a simple two-hander, the loosely defined young-man/old-man dynamic between Nicholson and Mitchell's characters is the core of the movie. Nicholson hadn't quite grown into his familiar screen persona at this point, and it's interesting to see Mitchell taking on that more hardened, cynical role with the younger Nicholson reacting off of it, as a precursor of the similar roles that he would play just a few years later.
