2021 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 10: GEORGE ROMERO WEEK Knowing how influential this one appears to have been (along with Romero's original "Night of the Living Dead" naturally) on the development of the modern military/government-conspiracy zombie film, I was pretty disappointed in the execution. The movie is only a trim 100 minutes, which is normally good for these kinds of movies, but the pacing and storytelling feel sluggish from the get-go. The attempts at countercultural satire feel hacky and underdeveloped, and the characters aren't nearly as sharply drawn as in Romero's Living Dead pictures. I might need to put this one on my second-chance pile sometime to watch with friends, but I was weirdly underwhelmed on first viewing.
