𝖍𝖔𝖔𝖕𝖙𝖔𝖇𝖊𝖗 𝖝 𝖓𝖎𝖌𝖍𝖙 𝖓𝖎𝖓𝖊: As a satire of the '80s UK censorship regime around "video nasties", I found this pretty effective in showing how the line between being a harsh critic of pop culture and being one of its biggest fans can sometimes be surprisingly thin. I'm don't know if this particular movie quite reaches all of its intended goals, and I feel like certain moments could have stood to be more ambiguous in how they played out on screen. But perhaps I just need another watch for all of the elements to sink in without my first-viewing presumptions getting in the way. But my big takeaway from this movie is that Prano Bailey-Bond has a terrific knack for capturing the visual feel of VHS-era horror through lighting and camera angles, and for applying those techniques like a painter with a fine-tipped brush. There's a lot of current horror movies that attempt the retro-multimedia approach that Bailey-Bond uses here, but she manages to successfully use it in ways that I haven't seen done elsewhere.
