ℍ𝕆𝕆ℙ𝕋𝕆𝔹𝔼ℝ 𝔼𝕃𝔼𝕍𝔼ℕ ℕ𝕀𝔾ℍ𝕋 𝕊𝕀𝕏: I've had this one on my to-watch list for a long time, catching up with it now it strikes me as kind of a weird lumpy hybrid of both Frank Henenlotter and Larry Cohen, combining a paranoid view of '80s NYC as hellhole with a smattering of socially-conscious messaging and good actors doing approximately 70% more *acting* than is necessarily called for in the script. It really takes its time getting to the proverbial fireworks factory; I don't think one of the titular CHUDs is seen in full until maybe an hour in, and they barely wreak any visible havoc until then. There's lots of talky exposition in conference rooms and a whole conspiracy/cover-up plot that are really just there to delay the fairly underwhelming third act. And I'm sure that somebody has observed this before, but it's very weird that both John Heard and Daniel Stern are the main characters in this six years before they showed up again in HOME ALONE. I want to read a fanfic about how Heard's photographer secretly had another family in Chicago and how Stern's soup-kitchen reverend went back to a life of crime.
