2020 Cult Movie Challenge Week 52: Italian Horror Week I think of all of the Italian directors that I've gotten to know through the Cult Movie Challenge over the last couple of years, Mario Bava is the one that feels the most rewarding to me. He's got a terrific sense of atmosphere and this movie has it in abundance; I also appreciate his willingness to just let the mystery of what's even going on in this town hang with basically zero answers or resolution until maybe 15 minutes from the end. And even then there's something appealingly ambiguous about how any of it actually worked, which means that I'm definitely going to be coming back to watch this again sometime soon.
