HOOPTOBER ORIGINS 2.0 NIGHT TWENTY-THREE: Even better than I remembered. Wan and Whannell got a lot of guff for essentially inspiring the '00s "torture porn" craze, but that's more a failure of other filmmakers to capture what this movie gets right, in terms of balancing genuine suspense/dread with clever narrative switcheroos and red herrings. I'll admit, it made me curious to try opening the seal on the other Saw films, I might just add one to Hooptober X this year.
