HOOPTOBER XII NIGHT EIGHT: Picked a short one to watch before heading for bed last night. Not sure what I expected from this that hasn't already been repeatedly iterated upon by a century of other movies running with the premise of hunting humans for sport, but I was sort of surprised that there wasn't more to it than that? It's fun in a way that feels of a piece with contemporaneous adventure serials, but it feels hemmed in by its brief (63 minutes!) running time. The pacing didn't feel significantly faster than a normal feature-length movie, with the setup taking the usual 30-40 min; So by the time we get to the "fireworks factory" and we actually have our human leads getting chased through the jungle by a Russian psychopath (possible inspiration for Kraven the Hunter?), the movie is basically over. The final shot is honestly great, and I have to assume a young Steven Spielberg was probably taking notes at whatever point this must have popped up on the late-night movie shows.
