HOOPTOBER OCHO NIGHTS TWENTY & TWENTY ONE + 2021 CULT MOVIE CHALLENGE WEEK 41: ITALIAN HORROR WEEK OK, this one feels a bit more like what I was looking for from Fulci. Lots of wildly visualized sequences that stretch the movie's reality to the point where it goes from disgusting to hilarious to actually entertaining. This is the movie where you see somebody vomit up their entire complement of bodily organs after getting hypnotized by a zombie, although I think it's not necessarily the most emblematic of Fulci's approach here. I'm thinking of the early scene in which star Catriona MacColl is rescued from a premature burial by the male lead hacking her coffin into splinters with a metal pickaxe, and not being even a tiny bit careful about where he's swinging it. It really feels like a metaphor for Fulci as the director, forgoing all logical expectations for whatever looks the craziest on the screen.
