So I always here about on how Google Android and IOS those companies can see all your notifications. This is because to show a notification it calls an API.

Is there any technical reason that it has to send your notification data to Google and Apple or is it just to get more data on you?

Hello!I use 2 Lemmy accounts. The first one for everyday use, the second one for specific, more anonymous use. They both are on the same instance and follow the same community’s. But when I look at the same community, with both accounts, I see not especially different posts, but on one account the oldest Post is 7 months old, and with the second account I see every recent post.

It’s like im shadow banned or something. Yes im 100% sure its the same community. Even if i go on the profile of the second account I can’t see any post this account made… Im confused…

Edit: If I look up my main account with the second, I just see 2 posts out of my 25.

I never understood any of it.

I always considered myself bi and not caring about the gender of the person. But there’s a problem I noticed. Women just don’t attract me.

Men, yeah, for sure. I like almost everything about them, except for how confusing they can be at times. It feels natural to me, like I just like men. I don’t think too much about my attraction towards men due to it feeling natural. It’s also “standard”. I won’t be judged for liking men.

Women, not so much. They’re pretty, but I don’t find them attractive. I’d date one and don’t care about the gender if I meet the right one, but none of them have been the right one.

I don’t like women. I don’t find women interesting sexually or romantically, just as friends. Not only does it not feel natural, but it also doesn’t sit quite right with me. I’ve tried everything. Seeing women in a romantic & sexual light. Watching and reading romance/sexy books about women. Only men do it for me, so I don’t look at romantic content with just women/focusing on women.

Even if it’s hetero romance or sex, I would ignore the woman completely and be interested in just the hot guy. Women are flat-out uninteresting. A man also has to be the main character if I watch or read the story.

All of this seems to go against the definition of both bisexuality and biromanticism and more under the hetero umbrella, like Kinsey 1 maybe. In fact, this is probably why I don’t understand being sapphic nor have many lesbian friends, as I want straight or bi women to talk about guys with, not a lesbian who doesn’t know anything about that.

I’m not judging, I’m genuinely curious whether anyone uses it. Because almost every text editor supports it yet when I use it, it’s just by accident and it messes up my document

Almost all business applications have horizontal menus and ribbons that take up a decent percentage of a landscape monitor instead of utilising the “spare” screen space on the left or right, and a taskbar usually sits at the bottom or top of the screen eating up even more space (yes I know this can be changed but it’s not the default).

Documents are traditionally printed/read in portrait which is reflected on digital documents.

Programmers often rotate their screens to be portrait in order to see more of the code.

Most web pages rarely seem to make use of horizontal real estate, and scrolling is almost universally vertical. Even phones are utilised in portrait for the vast majority of time, and many web pages are designed for mobile first.

Beyond media consumption and production, it feels like the most commonly used workplace productivity apps are less useful in landscape mode. So why aren’t more office-based computer screens giant squares instead of horizontal rectangles?

I’ve just finished my first week at a new job. I like the job, but it’s the first time in several years that I’ve had relatively standard 8 hours a day, 5 days a week as my schedule. The last time I did was in 2019 or so, and then I went and got back into graduate school for the interim.

Now that I’m back to standard hours, the commitment of time and energy seems to be quite a lot, more than I remember from prior reprieve (It could well be that this job is actually mentally demanding, whereas my prior full-time job was pretty brainless) and I’m not sure how I will make room in my life for anything else.

I like the job I’m doing, and I don’t feel as if I’m being unreasonably pressured at work (Boss even said to go out of our way not to work overtime, and it’s a salaried position so I know they’re not trying to skimp on hourly pay), so I guess I’m mainly wanting to ask how the rest of you full-timers do it.

And does it get easier to manage as you start to get used to it and make a routine?

Maybe it find quite basic or rudimentary… But these are things I’ve forgotten in the interim since last working 40-hour weeks.

I would love to hear stories about how you came up with whatever unique name you call your SO. Nothing graphic and don’t doxx yourself, I just think some nice stories like that would be fun for everyone in these ridiculous times.

Is there some secret giftcard doubling jutsu in not aware of?

I’m on the mobile app connect to read lemmy. Since a few days, I can only see a grey screen when trying to read comments.

Has anybody else encountered this or does anybody have an idea how I can fix this?

My guess is that it’s more than the number of languages you speak, read, and/or write.Do you feel cheated because I didn’t pick a number? Vote how you want to, or don’t vote! I’m just interested in the count.I can count to ten in five languages, but I only speak two. I can read a third, and I once was able to converse in a fourth, but have long since lost that skill. I know only some pick-up/borrow words from the 5th, including counting to 10.1. My native language is English2. I lived in Germany for a couple of years; because I never took classes, I can’t write in German, but I spoke fluently by the time I left.3. I studied French in college for three years; I can read French, but I’ve yet to meet a French person who can understand what I’m trying to say, and I have a hard time comprehending it.4. I taught myself Esperanto a couple of decades ago, and used to hang out in Esperanto chat rooms. I haven’t kept up.5. I can count to ten in Japanese because I took Aikido classes for a decade or so, and my instructor counted out loud in Japanese, and the various movements are numbered.I can almost count to ten in Spanish, because I grew up in mid-California and there was a lot of Spanish thrown around. But French interferes, and I start in Spanish and find myself switching to French in the middle, so I’m not sure I could really do it.

Bonus question: do you ever do your counting in a non-native language, just to make it more interesting?
