As the San Diego County, California’s City of Carlsbad "Snapshot of fines associated with violations” in https://www.carlsbadca.gov/departments/streets-traffic/traffic-safety/electric-bikes notes, “The actual fine does not include approximately $300 dollars in additional court fees.”
Similarly true here in Monterey County. For example, while state law allows a $25 fine for Helmet Required [for minors], 21212(a) CVC, in actuality, if you’re under 18 and are cited for no helmet in Monterey County, you’re typically going to be out $193 due the court, not $25.
