If you’re a communication or media studies scholar migrating to Mastodon, I recommend you check out the #commodon, #mediaStudies, and #academicChatter hashtags, join the @communicationscholars and @academicchatter groups (by following said accounts), and add your name to the directory of comm scholars I administer through the @commodon account. Welcome!
introduction
Reposting my #introduction, since I'm seeing a lot of fresh faces recently. I'm an associate professor at UMass Amherst, where I teach about #journalism and #MediaIndustries. My research focuses on media distribution and, occasionally, dysfunction in the adtech industry.
I also co-edit a book series on the civic impacts of media distribution for The MIT Press. Feel free to hit me up if you're working on a relevant project!

Time for an #introduction... again!
My name is Christine Lemmer-Webber, I'm co-author/co-editor of the ActivityPub standard which connects together the fediverse (Mastodon, Peertube, Sharkey, GotoSocial, etc). In other words, I'm one of several people who worked on the specification by which you're getting this very message!
I'm also Executive Director of the Spritely Institute! We're making next-generation decentralized tech https://spritely.institute
I moved here from @cwebber@octodon.social! Hello again!

#introduction après quelque temps sur mastodon :
- intéressé (assez pour y passer trop de temps) par les outils informatiques du monde #libre en commençant par #linux (#MXlinux user here) mais aussi #android et #foss
- réfléchit aux outils libres... qui libèrent ! notamment autour de la #décentralisation et du #smallweb #smolweb
- kiffe la musique du #Mali
- de manière très originale aime la #nature, les #arbres, et développe ses compétences en #permaculture
- un peu de #photographie de rue
I'm back after a comedy of errors for my little Raspberry Pi, where mastodon have lived for a few years.
3 things pretty much happened at the same time. The router that the Pi lives behind, got an update that threw the settings that pointed to the pi out of sync.
Something cause the nginx server to fail to load problery and therefore gave 502 error and other timeouts.
And last but not least the free dns service, I had running pointing to the pi, stopped sending http trafic to the Pi, where telnet, wget and ssh etc happily were pasted onwards when I wanted to play with sudomakecake.ddns.net.
Hence, the update to a VPS and https://sudomakecake.com, since the Pi struggled with updating mastodon and the traffic over wifi. Now its retired to IRC and backup duties which should result in less faff/stress/downtime for me.
Sadly I looks like I have lost access to the old install and therefore can't get my posts or followers and followings in a easy way, so have to build it up manually.
Fine, a belated #introduction. Still searching for my people here. Encountering too many memes. I like levity in my timeline, but seldom like that. Where are the shitposters? The wise-crackers? The dry wits?
Interested in #film / #movies, #books (working on a project to get everything on my shelves read), #blogging, #vlogging, #birding, and #walking (boring).
Raised in #Iowa, live in #Chicago. Would love to find other folks here, but also interested in those in far-flung locales.
Hi, I'm Sharon and I care about de-shitting the world. My contribution to that effort: my anti-racism newsletter where I share my experiences of racism around the globe and platform Black founders and activists trying to redress inequality. I'm a former trade journalist, journalism lecturer and freelance writer. I have lived and worked in many places, and am currently in Barbados. I love reading (and no, it doesn't have to be highbrow), words, Star Trek and learning new things. #introduction
Overdue #Introduction:
Hi, I am one of those computer touchers, located in #Berlin, in my late 20s, and this is my first time on any social media.
I have lots of interests (yes #ADHD), like #Vegan #Cooking, #Photography (often #Pets), anything #Space, #Gaming and #GameDev, recently #3DPrinting, trying to do good, the list goes on.
Really enjoying this online space so far, hope to meet and talk to more awesome people on here.
Also some sample pictures I like (with alt-text, of course).
(1/3)
So I'm a few days late, but I found out that it's customary to write an #Introduction, and so here it is <3
Hi! I'm Liz, a #trans woman who has recently entered her 40's. I've been out and open since October, 2021, and at this point feel like a #queer elder.
I'm a Sr. (Software) Engineering Manager with almost 20 years of experience in software development. I also have a few years in there as a Senior Product Manager, but my passion definitely lies on the engineering side of things.
I've been involved in Olympic #fencing for almost 30 years in some capacity, and for the last several I have been an armorer at collegiate, (US) national, and international events.
I am here on Mastodon after deciding to leave anything Meta behind, and realizing that BlueSky isn't the safe haven that it purports to be. I hope all of the Threads and Twitter users that ended up there don't get burned, but I'm not taking my chances with that.
Things I am likely to post about: Trans and other LGBTQIA2S+ rights, software development, vintage/retro gaming and computing, Olympic fencing and my cat.
We're Privacy Guides, a non-profit project & community focused on personal data security and privacy. 👋
Much like the right to interracial marriage, woman's suffrage, freedom of speech, and many others, our right to privacy hasn't always been upheld. In several dictatorships, it still isn't. Generations before ours fought for our right to privacy. Privacy is a human right, inherent to all of us, that we are entitled to (without discrimination).
You shouldn't confuse privacy with secrecy. We know what happens in the bathroom, but you still close the door. That's because you want privacy, not secrecy. Everyone has something to protect. Privacy is something that makes us human.
We're on a mission to inform the public about the value of digital privacy, and about global government initiatives which aim to monitor your online activity.
After many months of study and copious notes as an un-logged lurker, I have determined that the best way to connect broadly with the Fedi audience is to talk about sports.
Basketball saved my life. It’s how I rehabilitated my mind-body connection after developing Complex Regional Pain Syndrome a decade or so ago in my early twenties (on top of my already extant Fibromyalgia). The worst part about CRPS is that it scrambles the way our brains interpret pain so that extreme pain (“hello, old friend”), which in a healthy system is a signal to stop or change behavior, can also or simultaneously be a signal that we need to move more. I spend extraordinary mental energy distinguishing, poorly, between the two. What often happens is that it paralyzes (literally – this is how people lose limbs) not the affected limbs themselves (my arms, more recently my legs) but the part of your brain that processes the desire, need, or ability to move them. If you stop moving them for long enough, you lose the limb. I spent about five years with a type of ‘mental paralysis’ until I started dribbling a basketball and shooting free throws (with an un-housed man in his 70s who taught me to play like Pete Maravich; I miss you Dale).
Edited to add hashtags: #autism #crps #fibromyalgia #disability

My previous intro post was a few years old, so behold, new intro post:
Mike. Live in the Seattle area having grown up in the UK as a full blown British. Have a wife (incredible), child (boy), and three dogs (golden retriver/cream retriver/fuck knows).
I work in information security, something I have done for about 20 years. By day I run corporate security, enterprise IT and various other bits and pieces for an EV charging startup. I am big into EV's and currently drive one that is not a Tesla. I want an electric motorbike, so if anyone has a spare one please send it.
I also have a company of my own, Secure Being (https://securebeing.com), which does pen testing and digital forensic work - it's my way of staying super hands on while still doing the management bits on the career path.
I have written books about information security things. Five of them. Two are non-fiction textbooks, and three are fiction based on real world #infosec things. Check out https://infosecdiaries.com and your local bookstore to find them, just search for my name. I have been trying to write more stuff, but always seem to find myself distracted by other things, such as work. linktr.ee/secureowl has some mini stories I've written.
I love radio and everything RF. I have lots of antennas and various scanners and radios on my desk. I love intercepting and decoding things, like digital radio protocols.
I am a big aviation nerd. I always wanted to be a commercial pilot. I gained my private pilots license in the UK at 17, all self funded by my employment at the local Safeway/Morrisons store. I did the sim test and commercial assessments, but for some reason, at 18, I was unable to find the £100k needed to complete the commercial training, so I did computers. But do not worry, because those computers and love of aviation and radio/RF combined, and I run a project called ACARS Drama. https://acarsdrama.com has all the details.
I play guitar and am a big guitar/audio nerd as well. I record music under the moniker Operation: Anxiety, https://operationanxiety.com - the music is on all the normal places.
Finally, I am a massive fan of motorsport. I believe I have watched every F1 race for the last 30 years, maybe 25. I also follow F2, FE, Indycar and MotoGP closely. I average around 18 hours of Le Mans 24 hour racing watching per year.
So there you have it. If you are looking for a thought leader on the topics mentioned above, you've come to the wrong place - because this is where I shitpost, and shitposting is cheap therapy.

You should regularly update your introduction post, so that's what I'm doing.
You can call me Bob, and I'm a thirty-something year old living on Awabakal land (Newcastle) in Australia.
I came to the Fediverse because I valued, and wanted, conversation rather than "engagement". Kindness over the rabid hatred and bigotry that existed over on Twitter.
I liked it so much I decided to start an instance. And that's where we are now.
The main thing I talk about here is video games. I'm a fan of pretty much all gaming genres, but some of my favourites from over the years are:
Tomb Raider
Dragon Age
Cities: Skylines
Future Cop: LAPD
Transport Fever
I game on Linux!
I have a wonderful wife @Jamies, and a lot of animals. We have two cats, Pumpkin & Nutmeg, and three greyhounds, Waffle, Tim Tam & Fairy Floss.
I'm passionately anti-greyhound racing, and have fostered five rescued greyhounds in 2025 as of this post (including Floss who is a foster fail). Greyhounds are a really special breed of dog and they do not deserve the abuse, pain and needless deaths they endure every day as part of the industry.
I'm also passionately anti-bigotry, and I need to get better at verbalising it. I've watched on in shock as the world has taken lurch toward bigotry, racism, homophobia and transphobia. People should have the right to be who they authentically are without fearing being abused, attacked, or eliminated as we're seeing in the USA right now.
I'm also recently diagnosed with ADHD, which was a long time coming and a deep relief for me. I'd always felt as though something wasn't quite right in life, and that just living seemed harder for me than it is for many people around me. Understanding ADHD and how dopamine works in the body suddenly made my life make so much sense.
I'm unashamedly empathic, and will reach out if I see someone struggling. I won't take offence if you tell me to leave you alone.

Hey, I'm new here, and very happy about it!
I'm here following a Neuropsychology assessment in which we found out I was "high potential" (IQ ≥ 130), without "associated disorders"
I discover this at 40yo, and am under the impression that it explains several parts of my life, giving them a new perspective.
I have lots of questions and I wonder if I could find some peers around here?
I am not yet completely comfortable with the idea of talking about it publicly and suddenly very happy to hide behind a pseudonym!
Any feedback and or resources on the subject are welcome! <3 #introduction #newhere
I'm new here and looking for people/accounts to follow, who have interests in the following areas:
- Psychology & Sociology
- Conflict resolution
- Music
Do you have anybody to recommend? That would help me to feel less alone 😃
(boosts welcome)
#follow #introduction @sociology @psychology
Je viens d'arriver sur mastodon, et je recherche des personnes à suivre qui sont intéressées par les sujets suivants:
- La psychologie ;

Enjoy!
