Expect this list to grow.

Amazon's replacement for Linux is L4 in its new Vega OS. Think about that.... things must be very bad if they are citing performance and memory efficiency as the reasons to move from Linux to a #microkernel.

manpageblog v1.6 just got released. It is a static blog engine concept that treats written content like classic Unix man pages. It puts content first without sacrificing style and delivers a clean, elegant reading experience free from JavaScript, infinite scrolling, and other distracting clutter. The result is a fast, focused, and genuinely enjoyable way to consume high-quality content which can easily be served on very low power systems and follows the pure minimalism concept.

manpageblog is written in Python and available for many systems, including #FreeBSD, #OpenBSD, #NetBSD or #Solaris based ones like #Illumos but also on #Linux like #Debian or #Ubuntu.

Next year (in the year 2026) I will have been using Linux for 30 years!

I first started using Linux in the year 1996.

I was both an IRIX and Solaris user before I was a Linux user.

Which is part of what attracted me to Linux — Linux was a Unix (like thing) I could run at home!

Another thing that attracted me to Linux was — I liked that I could see the Linux source-code.

Around that time I was learning how operating-systems worked from a computer-programming point-of-view

The Linux project continues.

Bonus learning: you'd think older machines would struggle, but I've seen no post-install h/w issues on my 13-year-old MacBook Pro: wifi, bluetooth, ethernet, screen, touchpad, keyboard, speakers...

I suspect age is a benefit to a point, the Linux community having had more time to solve things, subverting Apple's planned obsolescence and urge to sell more regardless of environmental impact.

Den Digital Independance Day finde ich toll. Allerdings werde ich mich nicht stur - auch wenn ich gebürtige Sauerländerin bin (uns sagt man ja Sturheit nach und häufig stimmt es) - an die Monatsregel halten, sondern mein eigenes Tempo bestimmen.
Ferner habe ich seit Anfang 2023 bereits sehr Vieles im digitalen Bereich umgestellt.

I need some #Linux touchers and #HomeLab gurus to explain in excruciating detail what I'm doing wrong.

I want my #JellyFin server to be served over HTTPS.

I had nginxproxymanager running, but it has stopped working with Let's Encrypt.

What's the *simplest* way to add HTTPS to #JellyFin? It's an Ubuntu box with the default Jellyfin installed (no Docker or anything complicated like that).

Informed speculation welcomed!

I've come to the conclusion that, while I am still using #Windows 11 out of inertia, it's time to contemplate an exit plan towards #Linux . The switch won't be any time soon (I have too much other stuff on my plate for the foreseeable future), but I do want to avoid paying further license fees to #Microsoft .

Major areas of concern:

- My #Steam library. I am by no means a heavy gamer, but I want to check if the major games I enjoy are known to work on Linux.
- Migrating away from #GoogleDrive towards #NextCloud is going to be a major chore, but it's something I can start in advance.
- I am a very heavy user of Notepad++ for my #TeXLaTeX typesetting, so I need a replacement whose user experience comes close (and no, neither vim nor emacs count).

As for what distribution to choose... I dunno. Lots of people at my place of work use #Debian , so maybe that would be a good idea?

Good morning Fedi friends! 🌈✨

Made it back to France and now I’m at my in laws’.

I forgot a wired keyboard at my parents’ in Italy and I only have a wireless keyboard and mouse with me, which were never paired to my Raspi. Mother-in-law came to my rescue and gave me an old wired mouse… and with #Ubuntu’s accessibility setting and on screen keyboard I was able to log in and connect my gear. Ouf!

Happy #Linux / #Raspi week to me (till I get home to Paris) 🐧

Now I had some powerful epiphanies yesterday, with my rickety Sharkey instance.

Sad to say that because it locked me out, and recovery codes aren’t working either, its fate is now sealed. I lost all trust in it and won’t spend any more precious time on it.

But this ONLY relates to my self-hosted Sharkey, which has been cursed from the start, not the software itself, which is WONDERFUL.

I’ll stop putting my energy on it and carry on with my plan (a quiet corner of the Fediverse) on @ruud’s calckey.world — which worked perfectly for me last year, when I was test driving Sharkey. Time to resurrect the account and set up monthly recurring donations.
