@simontatham It's been a looong time since I used #putty (I ran it in a #Wine "bottle", these came from #flatpak, I'm using Debian 13 #KDE). Thanks for all your efforts!

To my mind, 98% of the time, people would use putty to log into a #linux box/VPS, like say a #RaspberryPi (Raspberry Pi OS, is #Debian Trixie 13-based). This would be a sensible default assumption, **demographically**.

It took a good 2 hours of struggling, just to get 256 colors to work in Putty! (#Python's textualize library seriously expects 256, or *it can crash* when the Theme is changed). Please let the defaults be sane, so there's no struggle for 256 colors! Please alleviate my nerd rage - I beseech you!

1) Sane TERM env var:
Connection -> Data -> Terminal details -> Terminal-type string -> "putty-256color"

2) Sane default font:
Window -> Appearance -> Font settings -> "Change" button -> adwaita mono 12

3) Sane bolding of text:
Window -> Colors -> General options for color usage -> Indicate bolded text by changing: The font

4) Sane (Linux-terminal-style) Ctrl + Shift + {C,V} (for copy and paste):
Window -> Selection -> Assign copy/paste actions to clipboard -> Ctrl + Shift + (C,V}: System Clipboard

💁 How to participate

Go to your main device (not mobile)
Open the terminal
Run find . | grep '.pdf$' -c (on Windows: gci -r | where Name -match '\.pdf$')
Repeat the previous command, replacing “pdf” with any file format you are interested in sharing. We suggest: jpg, mp3, and png. 🔆 Bonus: html, js, ttf, odt, svg
Take a screenshot of the output
Share the screenshot on the Fediverse, using the #fileCountChallenge hashtag (please, copy-paste the actual text from the terminal in the image description/alt text)
Add your (user)name and results to the scoreboard
🆒 Bonus: share the story explaining why you have so many/little files for one format.

I've been looking for a clean, #NoAI Markdown editor to replace Logseq. Logseq is great but has a lot of bloat that I don't need for simple writing (like my scripts). I tried MarkText and I enjoy it, but I just learned that it hasn't been updated in over a year with little to no activity on their github, which is a concern for security and longevity.

What are you all using for distraction free writing, especially for markdown?

Question for #Linux users: I managed to cause filesystem damage on a 4TB drive during system stability testing after a few system failures while OCing. Whatever the actual filesystem damage is it is it's subtle though. At this time I can't rig up enough space to transfer all the data off of the drive and just reformat it like I'd love to do.

So far as I can tell, existing files all read without any problems. The weird issue is sometimes when writing new files, eventually it just sort of freezes up and then eventually produces an error until I unmount, remount (so it can run the journal back,) unmount again, then run xfs_repair on it (yes I'm using xfs.)

Until such time as I can get all the data off to reformat, is there anything I can do to actually fix this?

Vim v9.2 is released. There are many magnífico features I look forward to use. VIM is a Swiss Army Knife for editing Source Code & text.

The features are too many to mention, no really I don't know them all; NOBODY DOES!
Just like with the GiMP I know the functions I need and learn more when the requirement arizes. VIM has an extensive help system which Bram Molenaar et all developed over the decades that VIM exists.

History
VIM was initially coded on the Amiga computer systems of which I own an A4000T with a Cyberstorm 060 and Max Ram, with RTG card (Picasso 96), a A1200 vanilla with a stock HDD & an A500 with stock RAM (chip and fast) and 3 FDD 2x 3.5" 1x 5 1/4"

Bram wrote VIM in such a way that it runs on the A500 with just 512kB RAM!

There are people who love EMACS. To them I say
