NOTE: no one can *create* Quote Posts now, this is just in preparation for the v4.5.* distro upgrade

So, at

Preferences (now down at the bottom of the right column) --> Other

find "Who can quote" and set to your preference

I've set mine to "Only your (my) followers"

Note: "This setting will only take effect for posts created with the next Mastodon version, but you can select your preference in preparation."

Started the first iteration of #snac (#snac2) customizing to match #manpageblog. It took a bite more time than initially expected but @grunfink indeed made some great and clever ideas when creating snac. The function for attributes and tags in his C functions are a great idea and simplify it. I guess, I simply had added them statically... However, a preview is available right here (as said, still not perfect, more to be done soon):

If I had the money, I'd match every VC investment in #bluesky with one to #mastodon. Make it a fair fight.

And I'd probably also pay some people to clone bluesky but run it on #ActivityPub and call it Twitter since he says that's not the name anymore.

So I can see a users posts with replies (e.g. https://cosocial.ca/@maj/with_replies ) is there an option for seeing *just* posts from the user _without_ boosts? I.e. just the things they have written?

I imagine a workaround where you tag your own things and then have a pinned post linking to that (like I do with https://cosocial.ca/@maj/tagged/work)

I think the only #Fediverse apps that could comply with age verification laws (as they have the tools available) are #Threads & #WordPress (I believe commercial plugins are available for the latter).

Age verification tech is best handled by experienced third-party apps (for security reasons), but #Mississippi does not understand the risk & cost factors for complying with their law.

How to send a DM on Mastodon:

1. Start a new post
2. Set post visibility to "Mentions" or "Private Mentions" or "Only people I mention" or "Specific people" (phrase depends on which app or interface you're using)
3. Mention account addresses of people you want to DM
4. Write the DM
5. Post it

NOTE: Like most social networks Mastodon DMs aren't end-to-end encrypted, so you should not use them for sensitive info.
