Mastodon has a concept called "pinned statuses", which is a special collection attached to a Person actor. <a href="https://docs.joinmastodon.org/spec/activitypub/#featured" rel="nofollow ugc">https://docs.joinmastodon.org/spec/activitypub/#featured</a> It wasn't readily known how this collection is updated and federated (not without code achaeology), but <a href="https://social.sitedethib.com/@Claire">@<bdi>claire@social.sitedethib.com</bdi></a> recently shared some additional info :smiley: <ul> <li>The actor itself will issue an <code>Add</code> activity targeting the collection with the status in <code>object</code>.</li> <li>This activity is sent to all followers of the actor.</li></ul>

I refused to join Bluesky and Threads because unlike Mastodon, they are operated by for-profit entities.

Bluesky was founded by Jack Dorsey, who co-founded Twitter and advocated for Muskrat to buy it.

Threads is a Meta company.

No. Way. In. Hell. was I signing up.

I've never regretted joining Mastodon in the years since I left Twitter.

I've had more meaningful engagement here than I ever did after spending over 12 years on the bird site.

I wonder what the situation is with #Mastodon apps for #Android these days. At one point, the official app was very bare bones, and folks recommended using #Moshidon or #Megalodon for better access to the full Mastodon experience. Is it the same still?

I have been using Moshidon for a while now, and I used to run Tusky. Having checked the last update, Moshidon got updated last summer, the official app a few days ago, and Tusky in September.

We're sad to see that IFTAS Connect has begun the process of shutting down.

We, like many other server admins, often found advice and help from the community there.

We hope that by preserving the 'Connect' news feed with Channel.org tech we can give back to the community.

Thank you for the work by @iftas and everyone involved, including all the admins who shared their thoughts there.

We look forward to seeing what's next for community collaboration on the Fediverse.

#Mastodon trust and safety people, I need your help

I'm trying to understand how "Quiet Public" is used. In nearly every UX discussion I have with people the vast majority not only don't understand it, but it actively confuses them.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't have it, but I would like people to at least know WHY we have this. Given you can already opt out of search results w/ a setting, why you wouldn't just use "Followers only" instead?

I notice that the /people/ section of snac gives broken links to follower and followee profiles.

For instance entries for mastodon users are like this:

Which appears to be an API endpoint rather than a web link. Links like this lead to a not found page.

Would be cool to host a Mastodon instance totally on solar energy. A bit like what https://solar.lowtechmagazine.com/ or https://solarprotocol.net/ does but instead of a static website, a horizontally scaled Mastodon instance.
