Mix Canyon Creek

This is a small waterfall half way up Mix Canyon off of Pleasant Valley Road in Solano County. Not an easy shot to get as there are very few places to set up along a narrow dirt road.
Mix Canyon Waterfall is the first image I ever entered into a photography contest. This image took first place in the color landscape category and came in second for best of show.

Mix Canyon Creek

You’re looking into a narrow canyon where a small waterfall slips down a dark, rocky ledge, its motion captured in a silky, flowing blur. The water appears almost white against the deep browns and charcoal grays of the surrounding stone, giving the scene a soft, luminous quality—like a ribbon of light cutting through shadow.

Around the falls, the rocks are rugged and textured, worn smooth in places by years of rushing water. Moss and greenery cling to the edges, adding touches of earthy green that soften the hard surfaces. The creek below gathers the falling water into a shallow pool, its surface dappled with reflections and gentle ripples.

The whole scene feels intimate and tucked away—quiet, cool, and shaded. You can almost hear the steady whisper of the water as it slips over the rocks, a calming, rhythmic sound that fills the tight canyon space. The air would feel damp and crisp, carrying the scent of wet stone and forest earth.

It’s the kind of place you stumble upon only after a steep climb or a winding drive, a hidden pocket of nature that rewards the effort with serenity and motion.
