Gato Preto, with roots in Ghana, Portugal and Mozambique, mixes music styles, some like Kuduro or Favela Funk with the electronic vibes of AfroHouse.
In “Barulho,” Gato Petro goes even further : it’s Angolan Kuduro meets Punk & Metal with distorted guitars in an afrofuturistic or afro-postapocalyptic video.
Today marks the 50th anniversary of Independence for Moçambique (from Portugal).
Born in the 1930s, Marrabenta became the soundtrack of this new era. Its name derives from the Portuguese "rebentar" ("to break"), a reference to the often broken guitar strings, a testament to the precarious conditions of musicians.
