Honoring NYPD Ivey Bruce on 9/11: A Legacy of Service and Strength
As we reflect on September 11th, DoRaleigh.com pauses to honor a remarkable individual whose courage, dedication, and resilience embody the spirit of service. Specialist Ivey Bruce of the NYPD devoted her life to protecting others and stood strong in the face of one of America’s darkest days.
A Distinguished Career in Service
SPCT Ivey Bruce served a long and respected career with the New York Police Department. Her work was widely recognized, landing her in newspapers across the nation and earning her numerous commendations. During and after the attacks of 9/11, her service left an undeniable mark on New York City and its people.
Her commitment extended far beyond duty—it was about community, resilience, and humanity. The impact she made continues to live on in the lives she touched.
Battles Beyond the Badge
After retiring, Ivey Bruce faced new battles. She has fought multiple rounds of cancer—diseases linked to the toxic aftermath of 9/11. Despite her courage and survival, she has repeatedly been denied assistance from the 9/11 First Responders and Survivor’s Program. This ongoing injustice underscores the challenges many of our nation’s heroes still endure long after their service.
A Community Tribute
This year, DoRaleigh.com honors SPCT Ivey Bruce not only for her professional accomplishments but for her enduring strength. Her story is a reminder that true service often comes with personal sacrifice. It is also a call for us to stand with first responders who continue to face hardships decades after 9/11.
As we remember those we lost and honor the survivors, we recognize Ivey Bruce’s unwavering legacy. Her courage on the frontlines, her resilience through illness, and her fight for fairness all deserve to be uplifted today.
Now we in the Raleigh NC area are lucky to have her in our community and she continues to serve with Chavis Circle of Friends helping the residence of Southeast Raleigh.
