Dr Victor Olaiya & his All-Stars
https://amf.didiermary.fr/victor-olaiya-all-stars/
Dr Victor Olaiya is considered the bridge between Ghanaian highlife and what would become Afrobeat.
His musical style was influenced by James Brown, with horn parts harmonized in Brown’s style, as opposed to the mostly unison lines of Afrobeat. The music includes the swinging percussion of Tony Allen, but not the syncopated style that [...]

Sarkodie – You Go Kill Me Remix
https://amf.didiermary.fr/sarkodie-you-go-kill-me-remix/
With “You Go Kill Me” in 2011, the Azonto dance craze took over Ghana, as well as the African diaspora in the UK and US.
The lyrics of the song describe an “Azonto girl” and the dance uses hand gestures and a whole lot of attitude to reference elements of daily life: grooming oneself, talking […]
I've been listening to Dan Maraya on repeat today.
When I was growing up in Jos, #Nigeria, back in the 80s we only had 1 TV channel. Before transmission started at 4pm it'd show videos of a skinny guy playing a banjo and singing in Hausa.
That was Dan Maraya (dan in Hausa means 'of', maybe a little like 'Mac'). To be clear, I hated his music back then; I was into hip-hop. But today, I'm finding it comforting and nostalgic.
