I overall think the #OpenSource technology world/sphere is about 70% there in development of systems, that everyone can use with a reasonable amount of effort, but the lapse set is affordability and #DisabilityAccessibility (mostly for mobility issues). Likewise it's mostly in the #Hardware not #software nor #OS spheres, (70/10/20 split) which is why not finding much if any chatter on the Hardware problems is so disheartening, because it needs the most work.

Atlassian is sunsetting its Data Center products. For Confluence users, the question is no longer whether to migrate, but how.
Together with @nextcloud ,we ran a webinar, “Break free from Confluence”, covering:
✔ Live migration demo
✔ Preserving hierarchies, macros & permissions
✔ Migration strategies with minimal disruption

Over next 1-2 weeks,I'd appreciate an extended thread re: #FrameworkLaptop, #mntreform, & #FOSS.
TL;DR on my idiosyncratic needs:
* minimize binary firmware blobs¹
* Having 2 disks in RAID-1²
* Runs stock Official #Debian stable³
* Understanding best current replacement keyboard options⁴
Is @frameworkcomputer or @mntmn better for me?
As I **hate** “please boost” requests, I don't so-ask, *but* I'd be glad if ∃ active engagement on this.

We're excited to announce that #Fedify has been awarded a service agreement by the @sovtechfund! The Sovereign Tech Fund is investing €192,000 in Fedify's development over 2025–2026 to strengthen the fediverse ecosystem.
This investment will enable us to significantly expand Fedify's capabilities and make it easier for developers to build federated applications. The commissioned work focuses on improving developer experience, adding comprehensive debugging tools, and ensuring Fedify remains at the forefront of #ActivityPub innovation.
Here are the key milestones we'll be delivering:
Web framework integrations: Official adapters for Next.js, Elysia, Fastify, and Koa, making it seamless to add federation to existing applications
ActivityPub debug & development tools: Real-time debug dashboard with WebSocket monitoring, federation lifecycle hooks, and implementation checklist CLI to make federation interactions transparent and debuggable
Storage & infrastructure enhancements: SQLiteKvStore for robust file-based storage across Node.js, Deno, and Bun, plus performance optimizations for production deployments
Comprehensive documentation & examples: Specialized tutorials for building federated blogs, social networks, and content platforms, with complete working examples and migration guides
Observability & monitoring: Full OpenTelemetry metrics, performance benchmarking tools, and federation health dashboards for production environments
Advanced features & standards: FEP-ef61 (Portable Objects) support and implementation of emerging Fediverse Enhancement Proposals to keep Fedify at the cutting edge
All developments will be open source and available for the entire #fediverse community to use, contribute to, and build upon.

If you're filing a potential bug upstream in #GNOME, particularly on rapidly-improving apps like GNOME Calendar, please test the latest version, unmodified by third-parties. #Flatpak helps.
Don't come at me with a 4-years-old version cowboy-patched against our will by #Linux distros like Mint; I will send you downstream, like this: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-calendar/-/issues/1526#note_2640160

Hello dear Fediversers,
My students want to improve their home lab backups and have come up with the idea of storing their offsite backups with each other instead of in the cloud.
My question is, does anyone know of any software or solutions for this? It doesn't have to be open source, but it would be best if it were. The option to encrypt the backups is not essential, but would be preferable.
Please boost.
Many thanks for any tips.

thinking about foss stuff, and I know I've groused about licensing stuff before, and how I feel like my only way out is to just Parity7 everything and fall into obscurity but...
...I think we need a different movement around open source, with new terminology, that clarifies the intent and opens doors to more pro-social behavior and capabilities (up to and including the potential for "ethical licensing").
I've been spitballing the terms Common Software and Community Software. The core idea is that things that count as Community/Common Software can't enter the realm of the proprietary (so, strong copyleft a-la AGPL and Parity, virality not necessary). What's the difference from "Free Software"? We get rid of "freedom zero", aka "the freedom to run software for any purpose". Common Software licenses may have Non-Commercial clauses, Anti-Particular-Industry clauses (such as anti-MIC stuff), etc.
I think "freedom zero" was a grave mistake. I get where it came from--a desire to remove discrimination--but what it resulted in was a hijacking of Free Software by the corporate "Open Source" wing to exploit an otherwise healthy community of people openly sharing their creations... for an enormous profit that we can't even quantify right now.
We need a strong return to copyleft, and we need to gather together and grow its existing ecosystem, away from the MIT/BSD poison that our world has turned towards.
Your thoughts are welcome on this. I want to have a conversation about this stuff and maybe eventually record all this in a longer-form blog post. If you know folks who have had similar thoughts please link them so we can chat, too.
