I've been doing a lot of thinking around the nature of trust. I received the highly beneficial advice to think over who the most trustworthy people actually are, in my life. A diagram that looks like a bullseye was drawn, and I was invited to fill in actual names of people I know - where do they belong within the rings of the bullseye? The people in the middle are the most trustworthy, and the outermost rings are where the least trustworthy names go.

It was difficult to decide who's name belonged in which ring of the bullseye. So I assigned numbers to the rings of the bullseye. 1 was in the middle, 9 was right outside the bullseye. I then made a list of all the people I knew. I assigned them all numbers, then thought over the numbers, occasionally changing a number a little more or less.

When I was finished, I described the meaning of all the numbers, 1 through 9. This labeling made the most sense to me, to give more meaning to these numbers. Here they are:

1. Deep trust. Someone who totally accepts you as you are.

2. Someone who wouldn't betray you, has affinity with you, but you can't say they totally accept you as you are. They'd like to see you change.

3. A friend with a solid character, but affinity? Maybe.

4. A "fair-weather friend".

5. Any random stranger on the street. No positive or negative to speak of; still undefined and mysterious. No basis of judgement yet.

6. Negativity starts here, but it's very subtle and insidious; well hidden. Psychological predation and deception begins here. Plays mind games. Wants to come out looking better than you. Is certainly a "frenemy" or perhaps even worse, wants to turn you into a "flying monkey". A 6 has the mind of a perfect salesman or ambassador. Uses a lot of paltering; deceptive framing of everything. Plays on emotions a lot, seldom facts, unless they fit a narrative.

7. Corrupt. Has a mind of a racketeer.

8. Sketchy. Criminality begins here.

9. Predator. DANGEROUS

#friendship #psychology #spirituality #trust #SelfCare

American political thought is marred by either-or thinking. This way of thinking has nothing to do with ableist notions of intelligence, that "life of the mind" which elites think will save us, but instead has everything to do with life of the heart. Not everything is a trolley problem. In the words of Thich Nhat Hanh, "One arrow can save two birds at the same time—if the arrow strikes the branch, both birds will fly away." How will you shoot your arrow?

#uspol #spirituality #antifa

Let’s get a little weird for the weekend! This is my first longer blog post and I’ve been doing a fair bit of reflection on #Theology and #Technology these days…

#Jesus #Christian #Church #Linux #Episcopal #Weird #Spirituality

https://catecheticconverter.com/gods-technology

Today I looked at a rug and reveled in the human urge to make cool little shapes and patterns.

I think that's #3GoodThings. Rugs, humans, and patterns.

#spirituality

Sometimes you just need to sit and think, space out, process. You might call it executive dysfunction, boredom, laziness. Or you could call it sitting, contemplating, recovering.

It may be all those things, but it doesn't matter. So just allow yourself to rest.

#spirituality #rest

So my piece on the Holy Innocents a few weeks or so back garnered a little bit of discussion. So I figured it was worthwhile to follow that up with a longer essay on the nature of Truth in scripture that, I hope, will help enrich folks' appreciation of the Bible.

https://catecheticconverter.com/deeper-than-fact-on-fiction-and-truth-in-scripture

#Bible #Episcopal #Anglican #Church #Christianity #Theology #Spirituality #ImABelieverInTheIdeaThatFactOrFictionWasSomethingRikerDidOnTheHolodeckForFun

After many weeks (has it been months?) I have a new entry on the blog!
Decided to write another thing about #surfing and what it means to my life. Also, the header photo is of me surfing!
DEATH, GOD, &
A VERY SMALL SPIDER 💎

I am increasingly aware that I will leave this world. I don’t know when. I don’t know how. Perhaps within the next decade. Perhaps sooner. Who knows.

And strangely, there is less fear in that now. Most of the fear seems to belong to what I imagine is unknown.

If death is simply the end of Robin and the end of this consciousness, then there will be nobody there to be bothered by it. It will simply be over. And if there is something beyond this life, another realm, another dimension, another form of consciousness, then I suppose I will recognise it when I get there.

I don’t know. And I am quite happy not knowing.

Human beings have created manifold books, religions and pictures of God, spirit, heaven, continuation and eternity. Perhaps some of them point towards something true. Perhaps some are simply beautiful ways of comforting ourselves in the face of death.

But every picture I can make of what comes next is still a picture being made here.

I don’t want to manufacture comfort. I want clarity. I want to meet whatever happens without having already decided what it is supposed to look like.

Maybe there is something. Maybe there is nothing. Either way, reality does not require my opinion.

And while I am sitting here contemplating this enormous mystery, a tiny spider appears beside me. He is absurdly small. I stop, look at him, laugh, and decide he can stay.

And suddenly, there it all is. Death. Consciousness. God. Eternity. And a tiny spider wandering across my morning.

The fire is on. The coffee is good. People are interacting with things I have written. The spider is minding his own business.

Life has not stopped being ordinary just because I know it ends. I rather like that.

None of it means anything until I give it meaning. And this morning, the meaning I choose is very simple.

Gratitude.

@DigitalCoup
@economics_that_works
@meditation
@3goodthings

#death #mortality #afterlife #consciousness #spirituality #ACIM #clarity #gratitude #presence #ordinarylife #mystery #life #openweb #human #person #spider #Economics #Housing #CostOfLiving
