Sour Sweet was the novel which firmly established Mo as one of the new young stars in the British literary firmament but,as with its predecessor, it was a slow starter before picking up a train of readers and admirers. Of all this author's books, Sour Sweet has sold the most copies. It is regarded as THE novel about the immigrant experience in Britain, though ironically it deals with an almost invisible minority. Its originality can be gauged by the fact that not only was there nothing like it before - there has been nothing like it since.
