湖南的湘西南 的位置，当地经济不活跃，百姓要么出去打工，要么上山开矿。由于矿难不断，政府虽努力整顿和规范，但还是不少人非法开采。矿工下矿井常不注意防护，多年后，很多矿工得了尘肺病。
本片从2010年开始拍摄，直至2018年，摄制周期近十年，直至跟拍的尘肺病主人公赵品凤去世 ，留下年幼的子女和弱智的妻子，他们的生活何去何从。

这个影片的想法其实在2019年早些时候就有了。当时我去鼓楼找我一个朋友大豆聊了聊。在资本和景观把人逐渐彻底异化的时代，我们都觉得我们的生活出现了问题，但不知道问题在哪里。尤其是生活在一线城市的年轻人们，大家普遍生活的很辛苦且状态很不行。所以我觉得我们受了二十年的教育，在 这种时候，面对这种状况却每个人都显得无能为力。对改变大环境的无能为力，甚至对于改变自己的生活都显得无能为力。只能一步步在资本的机器里变得麻木不仁。所以我们当时就准备拍一个当代都市青年生活状态群像，但是由于我们当时都不太会操作相机（其实是买不起）所以这件事就此搁置了。
一直到2020年年初，由于疫情，我们之前讨论的问题更加明显的出现在我们面前。那段时间我真的很难过啊，每天晚上独自咣咣咣喝酒。为自己难过，更为我所有的年轻朋友们感到难过。感觉那段时间里所有的人不是疯了就是抑郁了。我是抑郁的那类。这样的状态一直持续到疫情慢慢好转，我辞了工作，用花呗买了相机，决定把之前的想法执行起来。其实现在看到成片我觉得比预想的要好很多。而且开始大家一直在问我的影片主题问题也慢慢的有了答案。我的拍摄嘉宾大多数都是和我第一次见面，我在开始拍之前也是告诉他们尽量忽视我的存在。事实证明忽视相机和摄影师的存在是不可能的事情，所以慢慢在拍摄中我发现其实这是一个关于连接的电影，关于人与人如何从见面到熟悉到互相信任然后再建立连接的电影。而这种连接不就是爱嘛！所以只有爱，真实的去爱人，去现实中爱每一个朋友才能减轻开头提到的资本的异化和人与人之间越来越严重的冷漠。
