This album marks the debut of Steve Albini's incredible guitar sound. On Kerosene it sounds like he's playing shards of broken glass rather than a musical instrument, and when he's beefed up by Sant and Dave, and driven forward by Roland, the song becomes something more akin to a train derailment than a musical experience. Bad Houses, which immediately follows, is one of the darkest and moodiest songs around--I rank it with Pere Ubu's Final Solution, just to give you something to compare it with. The live version of Cables is a shimmering, simmering, nasty piece of rural living recorded at 7th St. Entry in Minneapolis--it's also obviously one of Steve's favorite versions, since it also appears on the Big Money 12" and Sound of Impact LP.
Originally to be released in mid to late 1985, this didn't see the light of day until early 1986--possibly due to problems licensing artwork (the cover was originally going to be Marvin the Martian pointing a deathray at Earth). Anywho, it was definitely worth the wait, this is the toughest, nastiest, noisiest Big Black stuff, bar none. Forget Songs About Fucking, this is the sound of Big Black at their peak.
The whole album moves forward in a lurching, explosive fashion that few bands can duplicate. It's easily one of the ten finest albums I own. The only weak spot is Strange Things, which was wisely cut from the Rich Man's Eight Track Tape CD.

UWR is pleased to announce the self titled 12” from Melbourne’s Body Maintenance. Following on from a demo tape and live tape, this 6 track EP merges melodic post-punk with elements of stark goth adversity. With nods to The Chameleons and Second Empire Justice era Blitz, these songs are evocative of the anxiously bleak yet anthemic sounds of early 80’s Manchester, delivered in a contemporary Australian context.

Perhaps you, like me, have listened to Bauhaus and Killing Joke and thought, ‘Well, this is great, but I wish it was a bit more of a rager.’ Similarly, maybe you listened to The Effigies and Samhain before musing to yourself, ‘Cool, although I thought it’d be darker.’ In other words, it’s occurred to you that deathrock could be a tad deathier and - if it’s not too distasteful of me to say so - rock a hell of a lot harder.
Step forward, Altar of Eden. The project of Austin, TX resident Albert Limones (whose bruising sounds you may have heard in the shadowy likes of Nosferatu and Creamers), it’s an unholy marriage of Big Black’s mechanistic rhythms and the serrated, atmospheric noise of yer favourite early ‘80s 4AD types. Tracks like ‘The Abandonment’ absolutely lay waste to your speakers - it opens with a harrowing shriek before throbs of chorusing bass and guitar carve out their own unnerving paths. Somewhere in the distance, a menacing voice can be heard, buried in murk and distortion, with the song operating at breakneck pace and maximum volume - hey, I think our criteria may have been met.
Second track ‘Tears’ ups the ante, leaning heavily on atmospheric gloom while pushing the drum machine to the fore, like Clan of Xymox setting up traps for the Slenderman, before the lacerating... more

Long awaited debut album from Sweden's best new band. These ten songs sound somewhat like a modern version of A-ha dressed in black mixed with early The Jesus and Mary Chain. It took them two years and three labels to get here, but if that's what they needed in order to produce what must be one of the finest Swedish debut album ever, it was worth all the wait.
用The Mary Onettes的长牌Labrador话说，The Mary Onettes的音乐是Labrador长牌中最激动人心的独立摇滚乐队。The Mary Onettes在Labrador长牌中，是风格很少见的独立摇滚乐队。长牌Labrador能够签下 The Mary Onettes也是一件不容易的事情，鹤立鸡群。因为The Mary Onettes的商业价值太大，长牌看到了乐队巨大潜力。这只来自瑞典哥德堡市的4人乐队，2000年组建于瑞典的Jönköping。乐队音乐的主体受到英国八十年代时期音乐的巨大影响，作为 The Stone Roses，Echo & the Bunnymen，The Cure， New order等早期乐队的追随者， The Mary Onettes的音乐中，除了自身所包含着那种根深蒂固的瑞典本土音乐特质外，The Stone Roses式的音乐就不用说了，还大量的包含80s和90s年代英国音乐运动时期的音乐风格，如那时的C86，Echo & the Bunnymen式的迷幻音乐，当然新浪潮和后朋的影响也完全可以从他们的音乐中听的出来的。所以说The Mary Onettes在Labrador中是绝对的独特一团，而Labrador 签下The Mary Onettes绝对是一个很明智的选择。其实乐队的组建初期并不顺利，乐队的最先做好的作品因为没有找到发行公司，而被搁置了近半年的时间。最后在2005年春天那时，The Mary Onettes通过SONY发行了一张EP，这张EP的音乐界的评价很不错，但那张合约并不怎么顺利。并没有签下他们发行首张专辑的合约，但是The Mary Onettes在那不久之后，因为他们的一张DEMO唱片，Labrador 长牌签了他们。2006年春天在歌德堡市建立他们的新录音市并且开始了他们首张专辑的录制。在我看来《The Mary Onettes》这张专辑中， The Mary Onettes能够将那些传统的东西变化为新时代的东西，虽然前辈的身影有很多，但已经很出色了，称得上他们音乐之旅上的精彩开篇。

在2007年推出其首张同名录音室专辑后，Carsick Cars乐队于2009年6月发布其第二张录音室专辑《You Can Listen, You Can Talk》。
Carsick Cars可谓国内走红速度最快的独立乐队，同时也是近年来在国际市场上“老外”认同率最高的中国乐队。在这张专辑中，兵马司唱片邀请了来自纽约的著名制作人Wharton Tiers担纲制作。这张专辑中乐队尝试了更丰富的器乐演奏，所探讨的主题也更加广阔与成熟。

The Cure 在1989年推出了这张大热门专辑《Disintegration》。《Disintegration》同时也是 Robert Smith“悲情三部曲”的第二部(第一部是《Pornography》，第三部是《Bloodflowers》)，显得黑暗诱人，带着神秘和忧郁，整张专辑有着催眠曲一样的感觉，没有了乐队以前的黑暗绝望的作风，尽管专辑的基调比以前更为忧郁。The Cure 的音乐罕见的变得迷人了起来。好像在无垠的大海里，仰望夜空闪亮的星光，慢慢下沉，痛苦浸透，安详地窒息。铺天盖地的深蓝色键盘，孤寂而灿烂的吉他，黑暗中幻化出彩色光芒的贝司，沉稳压抑而华丽眩目的鼓，还有 Robert Smith 凄美冷艳的歌声......

关于Chui Wan这个乐队，有人会提到这样的关键词：迷幻、庄子、民族、东方什么的。提提就好，不要当真。
最客观的描述或许可以是这样：这是一个由北京年轻一代实验音乐人结成的，以歌曲创作为主的摇滚乐团体。在Chui Wan之外，各个成员参与的其它音乐项目能列出一打，Chui Wan也许是其中最接近传统摇滚乐的一个。摇滚乐或许不是他们的主食，尽管他们每天都会尝上一口，但同时他们也会佐以更多来路不明的调料。甚至，有时调料可以反客为主做成主菜，那便是Chui Wan的样子。
《白夜》是Chui Wan的第一张专辑，这个名字来自于专辑里的同名歌曲，Chui Wan创作完成的第一首作品，那是2010年春天的事情。说实话，这张专辑来的有点晚，你可以理解为，精心的制作着实耽误了一些时间。在这张包含了8首歌曲的专辑里，你不仅可以听到打架的吉他、模糊不清的人声、飘忽不定的歌曲走向，还有被肢解的力量，隐藏的态度，不形于色的情绪，你可以认为这些都是Chui Wan的精粹，在录音室里他们做了进一步的提纯。此外还有张守望的键盘、李青的合成器、王子衡的萨克斯、闫玉龙的提琴以及刘心宇的调音台电路回授，那都是荒野里的夜灯，但不会让专辑变成一个绚丽的万花筒。
《白夜》的制作人是杨帆，2012年11月由兵马司发行。
